5 Reasons Why Digg readers love articles that list stuff

I've noticed that many of the articles that get Dugg and eventually hit the front page are a list of some sort. Just today:

• Huge list of games for Linux, check it out
• Five shocking stats about Men and Women
• 10 guys who belong in the NFL hall of fame
• Top 5 white hat hackers of all time
• Top ten must buy games for the Game Boy Advance

And not to mention the infamous Top 10 or 5 lists…doing a quick search for "top 10" on Digg yields :

So….here it is, The Top Ten reasons why Digg readers like articles with lists:

#5. The List-Syndrome. I just made that up, but it can be described as the addiction to shows like the ones on VH1.com (I love the 80's, etc) and on E! (25 sexiest females, etc).

#4. People like the "Top ten reasons why…" on Late Night with David Letterman.

#3. Same reason why people watch American Idol/Dancing with the Stars/[insert popular reality talent show here...], people love ranking stuff.

#2. Top X lists are derived from music charts. It just stuck.

#1. Anticipation. People  like to guess what will rank #1.
